Sass Second-NPHS January News
Well, 2017 is upon us! We survived Old Man Winter’s glitches with our finals! A huge shout out to all the students who made up finals over break by arranging it with their teachers and coming in on break. It was great to see your smiling faces during break! As we begin our second semester, remember we offer extra help for English, Math, Social Studies and Science for ALL students Monday through Thursdays 2:30-3:30. Also, our Media Center is open during lunches to work on assignments. It’s a clean slate and with all the resources available daily, our students are set up to be successful! Please encourage your student to use these resources and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. We are here to help. The State of Indiana released the 2015-2016 grades for schools and NPHS received a “B.” These grades are based on state mandated test scores, graduation rate, and college and career preparation. Our school goals are listed at the bottom of this page, and we are very aggressive in our goal setting by increasing our pass rate by over 40% this school year. Our staff is working hard to prepare our students for this two part test. All sophomores will be tested on February 28th-March 3rd and April 18th-21st. Passing these tests will be a graduation requirement for the Class of 2019. We will continue to prepare a “well rounded” young adult having the skills to be successful beyond high school, and meeting this state mandated benchmark is one step closer! Reminder to seniors: You must be passing ALL graduation required courses on May 26, 2017 to participate in our graduation ceremony on June 4, 2017. If a senior fails a graduation required course first semester, he/she was enrolled in the class again during 2nd semester. Some seniors have PLATO class requirements that must be completed, as well. It is very important our seniors take advantage of in school and out of school time to complete these requirements. We do not want them to miss out on our graduation ceremony! A huge shout out to our seniors who are on track to graduate and do their personal best every day. We appreciate your hard work and dedication! Our Guidance Department is busy meeting with students about next year’s schedules. We have posted our elective video on our website for students and parents to view for more details on our offerings. Our incoming freshman class will be enjoying Step Up day on January 12th and we will be inviting parents on March 16th to learn more about the transition to high school. Please take time to discuss your student’s schedule for next school year and reach out to us if you have any questions. As always, join us at NPHS showcasing our students’ talents-check out our calendar.
